Brazil surpassed the mark of US$ 4 billion in spending by foreign tourists in the accumulated result for the year. The value was reached with the US$ 413 million spent in the country by foreigners in October this year. The tourism sector had spent $2.9 billion and $3 billion over 12 months in 2021 and 2020, respectively. The data are from the Central Bank of Brazil. According to Embratur, the October result indicates a tendency for growth in numbers, since, in August and September, the value was also higher than US$ 400 million. Taking into account all of 2022, October was the fifth month that overseas visitor spending exceeded $400 million. In all of 2021, no month reached this mark. In 2019, the last year before the pandemic, spending by foreign tourists in Brazil totaled US$5.9 billion. The historical record remains 2014, the year of the soccer World Cup in the country, with US$ 6.84 billion. According to an estimate made by Embratur’s Competitive and Market Intelligence Management, more than 800,000 foreign visitors are expected to come to the country between December 2022 and March 2023.
