To close the celebrations of the centenary of radio in the country, Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC) holds the award ceremony of the Music Festival 100 Years of Radio with a special show on the stage of Sala Cecilia Meireles, in Rio de Janeiro, on the day December 6th, Tuesday, at 8 pm. The presentation brings together the three finalists in each of the five categories of the first edition of the festival, promoted in an integrated format by the traditional public broadcasters Rádio MEC and Rádio Nacional. The works were selected through popular vote and through the indication of the Judging Committee. The initiative seeks to discover new musical talents and stimulate the launch of new projects. In addition to checking out the decision live, direct from the capital of Rio de Janeiro, the public can also follow the programming of Rádio MEC and Rádio Nacional with the attractions of the event that combines a show with the award ceremony. Presenters Dylan Araújo and Raquel Júnia lead the recognition ceremony. The repertoire brings the interpretation of songs that compete for the trophy with the participation of the competing artists. They also have the performance of the Nova Orquestra with the execution, in symphonic arrangement, of works representative of the history of radio and Brazilian music that the vehicle helped to promote. Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Sala Cecília Meireles ticket office at popular prices in the amounts of R$10 (full ticket) and R$5 (half ticket). Entrance tickets are also on sale through the website. Interested parties can watch the special on TV Brasil. The production will be shown on the station’s music track on Saturday, December 10th. The content transmitted on the channel’s small screen will also be available on EBC’s digital platforms, such as the TV Brasil Play app. Show repertoire Nova Orquestra’s show rescues ten themes that celebrate the history of radio and help to outline a panorama of Brazilian music in the 100 years of the vehicle. The repertoire includes ten hits from the national songbook in symphonic arrangement with a work for each decade since 1920. The chosen compositions are Ô Abre Alas, by Chiquinha Gonzaga, representing the 1920s; a potpourri of the classic Carinhoso, by Pixinguinha, and the Cantores do Rádio march, about 1930; a work by Villa-Lobos to illustrate the 1940s; the song Chega de Saudade, by Tom Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes, recalls Bossa Nova and the 1950s. Next, Jovem Guarda is remembered in the hit Festa de Arromba, by Erasmo Carlos, which refers to the 1960s. Tropicália from the 1970s inspires another icon: Panis et Circencis, music by Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil. The rock of the 1980s arrives in the hit Exagerado, by Cazuza. To highlight MPB and country music that marked the era in the 1990s, the idea is to get the audience to sing in chorus Evidências. A song by the group Tribalistas represents the new generation of MPB in the 2000s, while the work Oração, from mid-2010, a hit by A Banda Mais Bonita da Cidade, closes the session. The show also has the participation of a base band that interprets the competing songs from the children’s, popular and regional music categories. Artists aspiring to the title participate in the performance on stage at Sala Cecilia Meireles. The winning musicians won trophies: Rádio MEC Award for Best Classical Music, Rádio MEC Award for Best Instrumental Music, Rádio MEC Award for Best Children’s Music, Rádio Nacional Award for Best Popular Music and Rádio Nacional do Alto Solimões Award for Best Regional Music. Stages, selection criteria and artistic recognition The Music Festival 100 Years of Radio in Brazil organized by the EBC in 2022 opened registration in August for the stages of selection, dissemination and broadcasting of unpublished works. The classified songs were aired on Rádio MEC and Rádio Nacional, according to the profile of each broadcaster. The productions chosen through popular voting on the internet and analysis by the Judging Committee were also available on the festival’s website. The jury’s criteria for evaluating the works observed artistic quality (music, lyrics, score and interpretation), originality and the quality of the recording. The team is formed by personalities of notorious knowledge or active in the musical area and EBC professionals. The authors of the compositions entered in the festival authorize the execution on the schedule of Rádio MEC and Rádio Nacional, in addition to allowing broadcasting on affiliated stations that are part of the Public Radio Network, as well as on other EBC vehicles, such as TV Brasil, and its digital platforms. In addition to winning the respective prize, the laureates also obtain artistic recognition from the audience of listeners who can follow their artistic creations on the programming. The songs chosen in the decisive phases resonate with the public and broadcasters.
