The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) began the graduation ceremony for the president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and the vice-president-elect, Geraldo Alckmin. The event started at 2:25 pm and is being held at the TSE plenary, in Brasília. Around 400 guests are present, among them parliamentarians, ministers of higher courts and representatives of foreign governments. Former presidents José Sarney and Dilma Rousseff also participate in the ceremony. Outside, a strong security scheme was set up to protect the seat of the Court. Follow it live: The ceremony began with the performance of the National Anthem by the band of Dragões da Independência, from the Presidential Guard Battalion. Then, the president of the TSE, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, handed the diplomas to Lula and Alckmin. After receiving the document from Moraes, the president-elect makes a speech. Before closing the event, Alexandre de Moraes also intends to speak. The diplomation is a ceremony organized by the Electoral Justice to formalize the choice of those elected in the elections and marks the end of the electoral process. With the electoral diploma in hand, those elected can take office on January 1, 2023. The TSE is responsible for the qualification of candidates for the Presidency of the Republic. Deputies, senators and governors are certified by the Regional Electoral Courts (TREs) by December 19th.
