Vitor Pereira debuted as a coach in Brazil when he was hired by Corinthians in January. In charge of Timão, the Portuguese coach suffered painful defeats precisely against Rubro-Negro from Rio de Janeiro: he was eliminated by Rubro-Negro in August, in the round of 16 of the Libertadores (defeats in the first and second leg), and two months later, the Paulistas were beaten on penalties by Cariocas in the Libertadores final, after two consecutive draws. Vitor Pereira added 26 wins and 17 losses in 64 matches in charge of Timão.
