The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) released an alert about the use of products for braiding and styling hair sold in the country. According to Anvisa, supposedly these products would be “causing temporary blindness, among other undesirable effects”. The agency cites cases of burning eyes, intense tearing, itching, redness, eye swelling and headache. “According to a medical diagnosis, in one of the cases, the patient had a serious eye injury. There are also reports of delays in the recovery of vision for consumers with deadlines of up to 15 days”. The alert was issued last Tuesday (13). Anvisa stressed that it is of fundamental importance that any undesirable health effects supposedly related to the use of these products, and other cosmetics, be registered. “There are specific links for registration by citizens and professionals who handle cosmetic products and companies and health professionals”. Serious effect A serious undesirable effect is an unexpected adverse reaction harmful to human health, which leads to temporary or permanent functional incapacity, invalidity, hospitalization, congenital anomalies, immediate risk to life or death. *With information from Anvisa
