The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) condemned this Monday (9) the use of the national team shirt in anti-democratic acts and vandalism. The publication of the official note takes place one day after the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers of the Republic in Brasília (DF), by extremist supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro who were wearing hopscotch. The attacks damaged the Planalto Palace, the National Congress and the Federal Supreme Court. “The CBF vehemently repudiates that our shirt is used in anti-democratic acts and vandalism”, says the entity in a statement on Twitter. The Brazilian national team shirt is a symbol of the joy of our people. It’s to cheer, vibrate and love the country. The CBF is a non-partisan and democratic entity. We encourage that the shirt be used to unite and not to separate Brazilians. pic.twitter.com/8JUuKRH64R — CBF Futebol (@CBF_Futebol) January 9, 2023 The calculation of damage to public assets has not yet been finalized. There was destruction of glass facades, furniture, historical relics and documents, as well as theft of weapons and works of art, as well as vandalism of paintings – such as the panel by Di Cavalcanti – and stained glass.
