The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), suspended his vacation in France and returns to Brazil after the coup acts in Brasília this Sunday (8). The senator extraordinarily convened the National Congress to consider the federal intervention decree in the Federal District, signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The convening act of the President of Congress suspends, for an indefinite period, the parliamentary recess, which began on December 23 and would end on February 1. “The National Congress is convened extraordinarily, without payment of an allowance, during the period necessary to consider Decree No. public order, under the terms specified”, says the document. The president of the Senate highlighted the work of the legislative police, the body responsible for the security of the National Congress. According to the senator, they carried out “44 arrests in flagrante delicto of criminals who carried out anti-democratic acts and scenes of savagery in Brasília”. The detainees were sent to the Papuda Penitentiary Complex, in the Federal District. With them, Pacheco said, the police found hatchets, machetes, clubs and slingshots with steel balls used to attack the police. As in the headquarters of the Executive and Judiciary, the Legislative had equipment and part of the infrastructure destroyed, in addition to works of art damaged or stolen.
