A force of 651 police officers, coming from 16 states, will arrive in Brasília in the coming days to form the contingent of the National Public Security Force. The measure is yet another preventive development after the acts of vandalism registered on Sunday (8) in the capital, when far-right radicals invaded and destroyed the Planalto Palace and the buildings of the National Congress and the Federal Supreme Court (STF). 233 police officers have already arrived in Brasília to act in ostensible and preventive policing of the Esplanada dos Ministérios in support of the local security forces. For the national secretary of Public Security, Tadeu Alencar, integration and solidarity are crucial. “In a moment of such seriousness, of attack on democracy and republican institutions, it is very important an effort by all of society so that we can face those who dared to challenge the laws of the country and the Constitution itself”, he said. On Monday (9), governors met in Brasília with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the other heads of powers, to reaffirm the defense of democracy and condemn the attempt at institutional rupture in the country.
