The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, extended the role of the National Force in the Esplanada dos Ministérios until February 4. The measure is foreseen in an ordinance published this Monday (23) in the Official Gazette. The extension was determined to ensure the safety of the opening ceremonies for the 2023 works at the National Congress and at the Federal Supreme Court (STF) on February 1st. On that date, the parliamentarians elected in the 2022 elections will assume the mandates in the Chamber of Deputies and in the Senate. At the STF, the opening of face-to-face sessions will be marked by the delivery of the reform of the plenary of the Court after the depredation that occurred during the coup acts of January 8. After the invasions that culminated in the depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers, the National Force was summoned to carry out the security of the three buildings. The current staff is 651 military personnel, who come from 16 states. Anti-democratic acts Since President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was elected in the second round, at the end of October, supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro have demonstrated their dissatisfaction with the result of the election and have called for a military coup in the country, to overthrow the democratically elected government .
