The Civil Police concluded that four of the defendants accused of murdering ten people from the same family in the Federal District committed the crimes with the intention of taking possession of a farm valued at around R$ 2 million. According to Police Chief Ricardo Viana, responsible for investigating the biggest massacre in the history of the Federal District, Gideon Batista de Menezes, 55; Horácio Carlos Ferreira Barbosa, 49; Fabricio Silva Canhedo, 34; and Carlomam dos Santos Nogueira, 26, planned to take possession of the land, sell it and split the proceeds among themselves. Located in a condominium in Itapoã, one of the administrative regions of the Federal District, just over 20 kilometers from the center of Brasília, the farm belonged to one of the victims, Marcos Antônio Lopes, who lived in the property with his wife, Renata Juliene Belchior , and the couple’s daughter, Gabriela Belchior. In addition to Gabriela, Marcos Antônio and Renata had another son, Thiago Belchior, 30. He was married to hairdresser Elizamar da Silva, with whom he had three children: Gabriel da Silva, 7, and Rafael da Silva and Rafaela da Silva, both with six years. According to the delegate, the defendants killed Renata, Gabriela, Thiago, Elizamar, Gabriel, Rafael and Rafaela so that they would not inherit the farm after the murder of Marcos Antônio. Also according to Ricardo Viana, the group killed Marcos Antônio’s ex-wife, Cláudia Regina Marques de Oliveira, 55, and the daughter the two had together, Ana Beatriz Marques de Oliveira, 19, for the same reason. During the course of the investigations, the civil police officers working to clarify the case discovered that two of the defendants, Horácio and Gideon, not only worked for Marcos Antônio, but also lived on the farm that, according to the police chief, aroused their greed. About three months ago, Horácio rented a house in Planaltina, another administrative region of the Federal District, with the intention of using it as a prison. On December 28, Horácio and Gideon facilitated Carloman’s entry into the Itapoã farm. Armed and accompanied by a 17-year-old teenager whose name the Civil Police did not disclose, Carloman surrendered part of Marcos Antônio’s family, who, according to the defendants, reacted and, therefore, was killed on the spot. Renata and Gabriela were then taken to the rented house to serve as captivity in Planaltina. Subsequently, the defendants kidnapped Marcos Antônio’s ex-wife, Cláudia Regina, and her daughter, Ana Beatriz. Marcos Antônio’s son, Thiago Gabriel, as well as his wife, Elizamar and the couple’s three children were the last to be captured. Among the evidence that the investigators gathered, there is a note whose author, still not recognized, asks Thiago to go to his father’s farm urgently, taking his whole family. The nine kidnapped victims were held captive for days, under the supervision of Fabrício Silva Canhedo. In addition to forcing the victims to provide personal data, including bank accounts and credit card numbers and passwords, the defendants are accused of appropriating part of the R$200,000 that Marcos Antônio’s ex-wife, Cláudia Regina, received for sale of a house. The nine kidnapped victims were murdered. Their bodies were found days later, in different parts of the Federal District – some, charred, were in two burnt-out cars. Already the body of Marco Antônio was found quartered, in the land of the house that served as captivity. A fifth man, Carlos Henrique Alves da Silva, Galician, is suspected of having participated in these deaths. The teenager who participated in the initial phase of the crime, during which Marcos Antônio was killed with a shot in the back of the head, left the scene and abandoned the other criminals – as he told the investigators, because he judged the group’s action to be too violent. The four main defendants in the case (Carlomam, Fabrício, Gideon and Horácio) will answer for the crimes of aggravated homicide; larceny (robbery resulting in death); corpse concealment; extortion through kidnapping; qualified criminal association and corruption of minors.
