The Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, Catherine Colonna, will come to Brazil next week for a meeting with the Brazilian Chancellor, Mauro Vieira. It will be the first visit by the French Chancellor to the country since 2019. The meeting should prepare the visit of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, to Brazil. On the last January 26th, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received a call from Macron and reinforced the invitation for the Frenchman to visit Brazil. For the Brazilian president, a good opportunity would be at the Summit of the Amazon Countries, which is being organized by Brazil in the coming months. The European country has sovereignty over French Guiana, which is inserted in the Amazon biome. Yesterday (January 31), the secretary general of the Itamaraty, Maria Laura da Rocha, received the director for the Americas of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Michèle Ramis, and the advisor for the Americas of the French president, Walid Fouque. The meeting was in preparation for Catherine Colonna’s visit to Brazil. According to the Itamaraty, the authorities dealt with the resumption of the strategic partnership between Brazil and France, including in the agendas of environment, defense, science and technology, cross-border cooperation and coordination in the Security Council of the United Nations.
