Paraíba will be the first state in the country to pay the national minimum wage for nursing. The amounts will be credited this Thursday (2), referring to the payroll for the month of January. The governor of Paraíba, João Azevêdo, highlighted that the floor will be guaranteed to the entire category. “All effective state servants, from this group of workers, retirees, pensioners, PBSÁUDE nurses, they can receive the values on Thursday with the floor duly updated. We are registering service providers so that they can in the second stage we can also implement the payment of the floor for these professionals”, he said. The National Nursing Floor was approved in 2022 and establishes a salary of BRL 4,750 per 40 hours worked for nurses; 70% of this amount: BRL 3,325 for nursing technicians, and 50% for nursing assistants and midwives, which is equivalent to a salary of BRL 2,375. The payment of the floor throughout Brazil is still being discussed by the Ministry of Health to define the source of funds. In September last year, Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, of the Federal Supreme Court, suspended the law that created the national nursing salary floor. He gave a period of 60 days for public and private entities in the health area to clarify the financial impact of the norm and the risks of layoffs in the sector and reduction in the quality of services. This week, the Ministry of Health accelerated the meetings of the working group created by the folder to present the terms of the draft of the provisional measure that orders the payments of the new values of the nursing floor. Several labor organizations linked to the subject of the nursing floor, representatives of the National Council of Health Secretaries and the National Council of Municipal Health Secretaries, are contributing with the text of the draft. The president of the National Federation of Nurses, Solange Castro, is optimistic with the result of the working group meetings. “The priority points to be included in the provisional measure were discussed, and it was up to tomorrow, Thursday, for the ministry to present the draft prepared with the points discussed, in writing, to see if there is an agreement with the deputies and with the entities unions. And if there is any adjustment, do it, and immediately forward it to the Civil House.” A bill is also ready to be voted on in the Chamber of Deputies, with the objective of guaranteeing the exemption of the payroll of the private network, to make the minimum wage for nursing possible. Bruno Sobral, executive secretary of the National Confederation of Health, Hospitals, Establishments and Services, an entity that represents the private and philanthropic sector, informed that other proposals are being prepared to be presented to the deputies. “We have been making proposals to get, in addition to payroll exemption for small and medium-sized hospitals and clinics, something to also exempt income tax, and also some exemption from Simples. Because many clinics are small and are in the Simples regime And we also have the tax reform ahead of us, which impacts us a lot”. This week, the National Nursing Forum, through social networks, called a national strike for the next February 14th. The entity also scheduled a general strike for March 10, in case the question of the source paying the floor is not resolved by this date. Listen on the National Radio Agency:
