The new InfoGripe Bulletin of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) shows the maintenance of a positive scenario for cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) across the country. Most federation units (UF) maintain a decline or stability at a relatively low level when compared to the history of recent years, according to data from the weekly publication. The study released today (3) also points to a sign of decline in long-term and short-term trends, with data from the last three weeks. Regarding Epidemiological Week (SE) 4, period from January 22 to 28, the analysis is based on data entered in the Influenza Epidemiological Surveillance System (Sivep-Flu) up to January 30. Among patients with SARS, the numbers indicate a predominance of positive cases for Sars-CoV-2 (covid-19) in all age groups from 5 years old, with greater emphasis on the adult population. Among children aged 0 to 4 years, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) maintains a significant presence, especially in Espírito Santo, Federal District, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and in the three states of the southern region. Of these, only the Federal District maintains a high level of SARS cases in this age group. The others already point to a reduction in recent weeks. According to InfoGripe coordinator Marcelo Gomes, the few states with SARS growth in recent weeks show a scenario compatible with the oscillation observed in the downturn. “Eventually, we have a small increase in one week or another – this makes the trend point to possible growth, but within a scenario compatible with a natural fluctuation”, evaluated the researcher. States and capitals Of the 27 Federation Units, only Acre, Amazonas and Maranhão show growth in the long-term trend until week 4. In Amazonas and Maranhão, the volume of weekly cases is still low in relation to history, and data by range age are compatible with an oscillation scenario. In Acre, there is an increase among children and the adult population. Five of the 27 capitals show growth in the long-term trend up to the same period: Macapá (AP), Manaus (AM), Palmas (TO), Rio Branco (AC) and Vitória (ES). In Rio Branco, growth is mainly concentrated among children. In the other four capitals, data by age group suggest that growth refers to oscillation around a low level.
