The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, said today (6) that the government will start this week the transition from the humanitarian assistance phase and the closure of airspace in the Yanomami Indigenous Land in Roraima, to the police phase, with a coercive character against garimpeiros and funders of the mineral activity. According to Dino, the expectation is that, by the end of this week, 80% of the 15,000 people involved in illegal mining in the region will have left the area. At this stage, at the request of the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples, the priority will be to maintain the safety of the teams at the posts of the National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (Funai) and at the health centers that provide assistance to indigenous people. 100 members of the National Force who will be, between today and tomorrow, arriving in the state of Roraima to, with this, especially strengthen the security of the Funai bases and also of the health posts. This will be the first mission of the National Force in Yanomami territory”, he added. In total, 500 men from the National Security Force will be sent to the state in this stage of the operation.
