The rain increased in intensity in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, and the City Hall’s Operations Center reported that the city entered the attention stage at 5:40 pm this Tuesday (7), due to rainfall records above 10 millimeters (mm) and 15 mm at at least two meteorological stations, in the neighborhoods of São Cristóvão (17.2 mm) and Grande Méier (17 mm). According to the Rio Alert System, rain nuclei remain active in various parts of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The most intense nuclei act on the north zone causing heavy to very heavy rain. For the next few hours, the prefecture predicts moderate to heavy rain showers, occasionally very heavy, and may be accompanied by moderate wind gusts. The city of Rio de Janeiro was in the mobilization stage since 3 pm this Tuesday, due to the weather conditions and, due to the storm, it moved to the attention stage, which is the third level on a scale of five and means that one or more occurrences already impact the municipality, affecting the routine of part of the population. In the central area of the city, there are floods in Rua do Senado, Gomes Freire, and in a stretch of Rua da Relação. At the moment, more intense rain clusters act in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the west zone, Méier, Grajaú and surroundings, in the north zone of the city. The Rio Alert System informs that there is a forecast of moderate/heavy rain showers in these regions in the next hour. In Baixada Fluminense, the city of Duque de Caxias is in the attention stage, due to the forecast of moderate to heavy rains in the next few hours. The Rio City Hall Operations Center reported that, by 6:15 pm, 48 sirens had been activated in communities located in risk areas for landslides and landslides. In the neighborhood of Tijuca, in the north zone, the River Trapicheiros that crosses Rua Heitor Beltrão has overflowed its banks. This river connects to the Maracanã River which flows into Praça da Bandeira. Mountain region The Civil Defense of Petrópolis issued a meteorological warning with an alert for this Tuesday, forecast of moderate to heavy rain showers in the afternoon and night. For tomorrow (8), the forecast is for light to moderate rain, with occasional showers of greater intensity. The Civil Defense warns that due to the forecast of continuous rain, high accumulations are expected, mainly in the upper parts of the municipality. Lagos Region The Civil Defense of Búzios, a traditional city in the Lagos Region, informs that, due to areas of instability, associated with high humidity, moderate to very heavy rain showers may occur at any time, with lightning and gusts of wind at isolated points this Tuesday and Wednesday in the region. The Civil Defense warns drivers to pay extra attention on the roads. It also asks bathers and fishermen to avoid going into the sea and instructs residents to call 199 or (22) 2633-0827 in case of occurrences such as cracks, flooding, landslides or other emergencies.
