In 2022, Brazil totaled 111,929 reports of storage, dissemination and production of images of child sexual abuse and exploitation, sent to the non-governmental organization Safernet. The data was disclosed today (7), by the entity, which is holding an event to mark the launch of the balance sheet, with authorities on the subject, in the capital of São Paulo. In 2021, the number was 9.9% lower. That year, the center received 101,833 notifications of this type of crime. For Federal Public Prosecutor Priscila Costa Schreiner, who is part of a group to combat cybercrime at the Federal Public Ministry, in addition to the increase in complaints, what is also observed is an evolution in the tools used by criminals. This has led teams specialized in coping to seek to update themselves. Priscila also pointed out that the increase in child violations accompanies a growth in awareness of the importance of communicating them. “The world of crime is modernizing, modernizing with much more speed on the internet”, she added. Researcher Jessica Taylor Piotrowski, a professor at the University of Amsterdam, said that, currently, measures such as age restriction have not advanced, alone. This question was also raised by researcher Veriety McIntosh, a specialist in virtual reality. In her presentation, Jessica pointed out that the internet is now more complex and that there are resources that children still do not fully understand. As an example, the teacher cited artificial intelligence, something revealed by a study in which she participated. Regarding the risks that children are subject to when accessing the internet, Jessica pointed out aspects that can also persist in adult life, such as child pornography, eating disorders, misinformation and FOMO, an acronym that, in English, summarizes the idea of “fear of missing something/some important event”. “Today, people have an hour less sleep, to be using the devices,” she said.
