The Senate will create an external commission to monitor the humanitarian crisis faced by the Yanomami and the withdrawal of illegal miners from the indigenous area in Roraima. The request for the creation of the commission was approved by the Plenary this Wednesday (8). The commission will follow up for a period of 120 days. “It is necessary to contribute with the Executive Power so that there is a definitive solution to this very serious crisis, certainly the biggest humanitarian crisis currently experienced in Brazil”, highlighted the President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG). The commission will be composed of the three senators of Roraima, Mecias de Jesus (Republicans), Chico Rodrigues (PSB) and Dr. Hiram (PP), in addition to the participation of three federal deputies from the state and two senators from other states, yet to be defined. The group is expected to travel this Thursday (9) to the indigenous land, according to information released by the Senate. This week, the federal government began actions to remove illegal mining from the Yanomami Indigenous Land, in Roraima. Teams from Ibama, the National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (Funai) and the National Public Security Force destroyed, this Tuesday (7), a helicopter, an airplane, a bulldozer and structures that served as logistical support for the miners.
