Retired sergeant of the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro (PMRJ) Ronnie Lessa, accused of killing councilwoman Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, was expelled from the corporation. According to the press office of the Rio de Janeiro PM, he was “excluded” from the corporation last Wednesday (8). Ronnie Lessa and another accused of the homicides, former military police officer Élcio Queiroz, have been in prison since March 2019. They are responsible for triple-qualified double homicide (awkward reason, ambush and resource that made it difficult for the victim to defend) and for the attempted murder against an aide to Marielle, who survived. In addition to the homicide case, Lessa has already had preventive detention ordered for money laundering and was convicted in cases of international arms trafficking and concealment of the weapons used in the murder of Marielle and Anderson. The councilor and the driver were shot dead on March 14, 2018, in the central region of the city, when returning to their home.
