President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva transferred the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) from the Institutional Security Office (GSI) to the Civil House, a portfolio headed by Minister Rui Costa. The decree with the change was published in the Official Gazette this Thursday (2). With the measure, Abin leaves the body that is commanded by Minister Marco Edson Gonçalves Dias, who is a reserve general in the Army and already took care of Lula’s security during his first terms. Created in 1999, the agency is the central body of the Brazilian Intelligence System and is responsible for planning, executing, coordinating, supervising and controlling the country’s intelligence activities. The actions are intended to provide subsidies to the President of the Republic in matters of national interest. By law, the Brazilian Intelligence System is based on the preservation of national sovereignty, the defense of the Democratic State of Law and the dignity of the human being.
