The Senate approved this Tuesday (7) bill nº 781/2020, which establishes rules for the creation of specialized police stations to assist women and Maria da Penha Patrols. The proposal aims to prevent and combat violence against women using resources from the National Public Security Fund (FNSP) allocated to the states. The units will operate every day of the week, including holidays, 24 hours a day. The project, authored by Senator Rodrigo Cunha (PSDB-AL), provides that specialized police stations provide psychological and legal assistance and provide a telephone number or other means of electronic message for the immediate activation of the police in cases of violence against women. The new rule also provides that the states will have a period of five years to present a timetable for the creation of police stations and the most populous cities should have priority. In places where there is no specific equipment, the existing police station must offer assistance in a reserved room and by female police officers, preferably, at the same times and under the same conditions. In addition, the approved project institutes the “Maria da Penha Patrols” in the military police, which will be created with the aim of supervising compliance with protective measures through patrols and visits.
