On the 10th, the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro (TMRJ) begins the 2023 season with the series of concerts Celebrations, which honors composers of international music, including Beethoven, Camille Saint-Saëns, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Berlioz, Verdi and Adolphe Charles Adam. “In our concert season, we will beholding all these musical geniuses,” said the theater’s artistic director, Eric Herrero. According to him, Municipal will return with full force, in its artistic season until the end of the year, without interruptions, as it happened last year. “The expectation is to repeat the success registered in 2022. The public came back very strongly”, he said. The concerts have free classification and provide the public with a free lecture one hour before each show, in the Assyrio Hall. Tickets have prices ranging from R$ 15 (side and central galleries), R$ 30 (upper balcony and upper balcony) and R$ 40 (audience and main balcony) to R$ 60 (individual ticket for boxes and cabins) or R$360 (six seats). They can be purchased on the theater’s website. On the 10th and 11th of this month, the theater presents on its main stage Symphony No. 9 in opus 125, by Ludwig Van Beethoven, with the participation of the Choir and Symphony Orchestra of the house (OSTM). On the 10th, the show will be at 7 pm and, on the following day, at 5 pm, with Michele Menezes (soprano), Andressa Inácio (contralto), Fernando Portari (tenor) and Savio Sperandio (bass) as soloists. The conductor will be responsible for OSTM, Felipe Prazeres. On the 15th, at 12 pm, and on the 16th, at 2 pm, two editions of the Didactic Concert for Schools will be presented, with O Carnaval dos Animais, by Camile Saint-Saëns, with the theater’s Symphonic Orchestra and pianists Katia Baloussier and Murilo Emereciano. “It was a big hit last year and many people asked to do it again,” Herrero said. April In April, the Symphony Concert celebrates the 130th anniversary of Tchaikovsky’s death, within the Celebrations series, with the Violin Concerto in D Major, Opus 35, and the Piano Concerto, Opus 23, whose soloists will be Ricardo Amado, on violin , and Álvaro Siviero, on piano, conducted by Maestro Felipe Prazeres. On the 20th, there will be a preview at 12:00 (for schools) and, on the 22nd, at 5:00 pm. Still in April, as part of the Música Brasileira em Foco project, there will be a preview on the 28th, at 12h, for schools, of the opera in scenic concert Piedade, by João Guilherme Ripper, with the soloists Johnny França, Gabriella Pace, Ricardo Gaio and , on guitar, Cyro Delvizio. Conductor will be maestro Silvio Viegas. On the 29th, the session will start at 5 pm. The opera deals with the tragedy involving the writer Euclides da Cunha. Eric Herrero informed that, in May, Theatro Municipal will be the stage of the Coral Symphonic Concert, within the Celebrations series, commemorating the 210th anniversary of the birth of Giuseppe Verdi, with the Requiem Mass. The soloists will be Marly Montoni, Denise de Freitas, Paulo Mandarino and Hernán Iturralde. According to the artistic director, the show “shows all the strength and splendor of the Theatro Municipal choir, now with its renewed energy, with the hiring made last year”. Tobias Volkmann will conduct. The concert is scheduled for the 12th, at 7 pm, and the 13th, at 5 pm. Also in May, on the 26th, at 7 pm, and on the 27th, at 5 pm, the Municipal do Rio will host the Symphonic Concert O Grande Encontro, in which the theater’s Symphonic Orchestra invites the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra (OSB) to celebrate Hector Berlioz (220 years of birth). On the program, the works O Corsário, opus 21 – Overture, The Damnation of Faust – Hungarian March, Roman Carnival – Overture. “The two orchestras will be together on stage and the two groups will be conducted by Maestro Felipe Prazeres”, said Herrero. The orchestras will also play for the public, in the same program, works by Richard Wagner (140 years of death): Lohengrin – Prelude to the Third Act, Tristan and Isolde – Prelude and Death of Love and Tannhäuser – Overture. There will be a special participation by soprano Eliane Coelho. Specials The artistic director pointed out that, in celebration of the 90th anniversary of the TMRJ choir, to be completed in August, the equipment will present to the public two pieces that have not been performed by the artistic bodies of the house for a long time: the 9th Symphony, by Beethoven, and Verdi’s Requiem. The choir will be accompanied by OSTM. Herrero added that in the first half of the year, two ballets and another important opera will be presented for the theater’s anniversary. The three artistic bodies of the house will be gathered: choir, orchestra and ballet, to celebrate the 114 years of the theater. “The event will take place on July 14, with a preview open to the public.
