In the last four years, the complaints of sexual harassment received by the Public Ministry of Labor in São Paulo (MPT/SP) increased from 11, in 2018, to 182, in 2022. This year, until this Wednesday (8), there were MPT received 54 complaints. Labor prosecutor Sofia Vilela points out that the numbers do not necessarily reflect the increase in cases, since, previously, many could be silenced. In a note, she cites the embarrassment and discredit to which women are subjected in cases of harassment in the workplace. According to the prosecutor, the wide repercussion of cases such as the one involving the then president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Pedro Guimarães, last year, helped to encourage victims to report. Guimarães was sued by the MPT. At the time, he denied allegations of abuse against bank employees. For Sofia Vilela, awareness campaigns also contribute to increasing the number of complaints. How to report it MPT advises people who are suffering or witnessing cases of sexual harassment at work to report abuse. The first step is to look for an internal reporting channel in the organization where you work to register the case. In case of fear of reprisals, the complaint can be made to the MPT, which will open an investigation against the company. The Public Ministry of Labor also points out that it is important to gather witnesses of the situation and, in cases where the complainant herself is suffering harassment, never to be alone with the aggressor. Video or audio recordings can also be used as evidence but are not mandatory.
