The Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade Lima, informed this Thursday (9) that the folder is working for a program to value workers of the Unified Health System (SUS). According to her, women already make up more than 60% of workers in the Brazilian health system. “We are 2 million workers in the SUS. This will be a key program of our management that will not be limited to a secretariat or department. The issue of gender equity and the fight for women’s rights in all dimensions will guide our action in the coming years”, said Nísia, when participating in the online debate on Women and Global Health, promoted by the Center for International Relations in Health of the Oswaldo Foundation Cruz (Cris/Fiocruz), as part of International Women’s Day, celebrated this Wednesday (8). Femicide According to the minister, femicide is an agenda addressed with inter-ministerial policies. “It is important to note that, every hour, four women suffer violence in the country, and, every day, more than one woman dies in crimes that target the fact that we are women. We cannot remain silent in the face of this situation, and we must also think that gender issues are aggravated by racial inequalities because, among the most affected women, there are black and indigenous women”. She pointed out that the Ministry of Health also sees comprehensive care for women throughout their entire life cycle – from childhood to aging. “Therefore, these are agendas that address the issue of human rights, women’s dignity, and a resumption of important policies that have already been on the agenda of the Ministries of Health, Women, Racial Equality and other important ministries”, said Nísia.
