Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), left this Thursday (9) the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hospital Sírio Libanês, in Brasília, where he had been hospitalized as a result of an emergency surgery provoked due to intestinal obstruction. According to a note released by the Federal Supreme Court, Barroso underwent surgery to close an incisional hernia at the end of February. After the procedure, he participated in a plenary session via videoconference, on March 1, but soon after, he needed to be operated on twice more due to three episodes of intestinal obstruction. According to the Supreme Court, “the minister’s recovery is as expected”. The text also informs that Barroso was admitted to the ICU to facilitate medical observation after surgery. There was no release forecast. Barroso is currently vice-president of the STF, and should assume the presidency of the Court from October, when the current president, Minister Rosa Weber, reaches the age of compulsory retirement.
