The Ibirapuera Planetarium is holding a free activity this Saturday (11), honoring female names in science in allusion to International Women’s Day, celebrated on the 8th. Pass. The session lasts 50 minutes, is free for all ages and recovers the trajectory of researchers such as Jocelyn Bell, Valentina Tereshkova and Marcelle Soares-Santos. The presentation is on account of doctoral student in astrophysics and professor at the planetarium Mirian Castejon Molina. Although women have, throughout history, contributed to several areas of knowledge as much as male colleagues, they often face, even today, machismo in institutions. As a consequence, many of them end up in supporting records. Russian Valentina Tereshkova, for example, was the first woman to go into space, in 1963. However, as a BBC report recounts, when questioning authorities about the sexism that characterized the selection criteria for astronauts who would depart on missions, her country left to send another woman for 19 years. The pretext was that space was an environment that offered too many risks to women. Service: ‘Had to be a Woman’ session at Planetarium Ibirapuera Location: Planetarium Ibirapuera Address: Av.
