Restaura Natureza, WWF-Brazil’s Brazilian Ecosystem Restoration Olympiad, is open for registration for its second edition. In this edition, the collaborative competition will be extended to the 1st year of high school, in addition to students in the 7th to 9th year of elementary school from public and private schools across the country. Entries can be made by the site. A new training theme, Food Security, has been included in the 2023 Olympics, joining nine other current themes that connect to the school curriculum and are important pathways to restoring nature and people’s connection to it. The Olympiad is made up of two simultaneous phases: the online phase, which presents the training themes and invites students to test their knowledge individually, and the practical phase, carried out in a group, in which children and young people will develop, accompanied by a teacher. responsible, its projects related to the use of technology, planting, changes in community management, engagement campaigns or any creative action that promotes the restoration of ecosystems. Students accumulate points in both phases. It is also possible to earn points by inviting friends to Restore Nature. All groups that send a report of their actions will compete in two categories: Judging Commission and Popular Vote, which are worth prizes. School community In order for Restaura Natureza to address the demands of the school community, a listening process was carried out with teachers and education professionals from several Brazilian cities. The development of the Olympics also considered the urgent needs and issues raised by WWF-Brazil restoration specialists and technical partners. The Olympics’ ambassador is Chico Bento, through an institutional partnership with Mauricio de Sousa Produções. Institutional partners are also the United Nations Program for the Environment (UNEP), the Scouts of Brazil, the Ecospeaker Cinema Exhibition, the Brazilian Society for Ecological Restoration (Sobre) and the Creativos da Escola, from the Alana Institute. It has the support of the Bom Ar® brand, from Reckitt Hygiene Comercial, with whom WWF-Brasil started a three-year partnership in 2021 for the restoration of the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest, and Aegea. The competition is organized by Quero na Escola, a non-profit association dedicated to education in partnership with WWF-Brazil, governments and companies across the country to combat socio-environmental degradation and defend people’s lives and nature, in addition to seeking urgent solutions. for the climate emergency.
