Brazil and Germany signed a document that reaffirms strategic partnerships between the two countries. The Ministers of Mines and Energy of Brazil, Alexandre Silveira, and of Economy and Climate Action of Germany, Robert Habeck, highlighted that the initiative will strengthen the energy transition, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Silveira suggested to his German colleague that he hire low-carbon hydrogen produced in Brazil, in order to collaborate with the installation of industrial plants in the country, which would help strengthen the National Hydrogen Program which, according to him, is a priority for the Brazilian government. . In a note, the Ministry of Mines and Energy informs that the idea “is to hold an auction in Brazil, with a guarantee of contracting by the German government, for the development of the low-carbon hydrogen program for both the Brazilian and German governments” . Silveira explains that the partnership “will help advance Brazil’s clean energy matrix even further”, and that the portfolio’s challenge will be to “reconcile this government policy with economic development to generate opportunities for the Brazilian people in a way that to fight inequalities, still very latent in our society”. The Brazilian minister added that the country has “the potential to be a protagonist in this agenda”, since it has a market scale, diversified and abundant energy resources, “in addition to an energy sector with a high matrix of renewable sources”. “Our clean energies – solar, wind and hydro – have been developing exponentially. There is a tendency to have a large surplus of energy in Brazil, which can be reconciled with Germany’s interests in relation to green hydrogen”, said Silveira, in the note. The German minister praised Brazil’s potential for the production of renewable energy and said that there are already “sectors interested in investing in the production of low-carbon hydrogen” in his country.
