The Federal Police (PF) today (18) carried out an operation in Boa Vista to arrest suspects of participating in a criminal organization that recruits and sexually exploits women and teenagers in illegal mines in the Yanomami Indigenous Land. In the operation called Palácios, four search and seizure warrants and four temporary arrest warrants are being served. They were dispatched by the Roraima State Court for Crimes against Vulnerables. The investigated group would be responsible for enticing the 15-year-old teenager rescued last Tuesday (14), in an approach on the Mucajaí River, when she was being taken to be sexually exploited in gold mines in the region. The case gave rise to today’s investigations and actions. So far, the PF says it has identified three people involved in the logistics and operation of the scheme to send women and teenagers to the mining areas. Two are women, and sisters, and a man who is the husband of one of them. According to the PF, the crime was articulated through fake profiles on social networks. The recruiters offered work opportunities in different mining activities, with the promise of high cash earnings. Those who accepted the proposals were taken by a driver to a clandestine airstrip, from where they were transported to the mining areas. As they arrived in precarious conditions, the victims were sexually exploited to pay debts, which could exceed R$ 10,000. Among the charges were transportation, food and housing, designed to prevent women from paying their debts and leaving the place. Under the threat of criminals, they even performed up to 15 programs a night. The Federal Police provides a contact number for denouncing situations of exploitation and abuse like these. In Roraima, the number is (95) 3621-1500. Victims or other people who have knowledge of these crimes can also appear in person at the PF Superintendence in Boa Vista.
