The free course Citizenship and Communication: Diversity, Inclusion and New Formats in Post-Culture Digital Journalism, offered by the Rede de Jornalistas Pretos collective, in partnership with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), is open for enrollment until the next day 27. Applications can be made at this link. Free, the course will be held virtually, with live classes, always on Fridays, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, starting on April 14th. Professors Marcelle Chagas, from the Fluminense Federal University, and Ivana Bentes, from the UFRJ School of Communication, will be the coordinators of the course, which should end on July 21st. Students who have 75% attendance will receive an extension certificate issued by UFRJ. The objective is to reach all people who are interested in the subject, in addition to university graduates. Therefore, it is not necessary to be affiliated with UFRJ to participate. Diversity In an interview with Agência Brasil, Ivana Bentes highlighted that, with social networks, journalism has changed a lot. “There is a great diversity of social groups, and the course also wants to situate these new issues a little.” Participants will learn more about diversity, inclusion and new formats in post-digital culture journalism. The themes are linked to the identity issue of diversity, involving the horizon of contents that have become more sensitive. Ivana said that, being an extension activity, the course constitutes an open door for anyone to address issues discussed in the university environment, regardless of graduation or having the opportunity to enter a university. “Then, we open it up to everyone.” This will be the first course held in partnership between Rede JP and UFRJ and, according to the professor, translates the concern of young professionals within the more traditional agenda of communication in journalism courses. “It is important to have this discussion. The course will bring guests to speak. It is a very diverse course in terms of points of view and presentation of proposals”, stated Ivana. Classes will be broadcast live, but will be recorded for later access by interested parties. In Ivana’s opinion, it is fundamental for the contents to be recorded so that access is possible at any time and to serve as a basis for debates in public schools and other universities. “It is an important guideline for UFRJ to make the content available to everyone. And we are dedicated to producing quality content and spreading it around.”
