The Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, said this Monday (20) that the Ministry reached the goal of re-registering more than 80% of private weapons in the country. Of a total of 762,365 weapons registered in the Military Weapons Management System (Sigma), maintained by the Army, 613,834 have been re-registered so far. The number represents 81% of the total. The deadline ends on April 3 and, according to Dino, it will not be extended. “There will be no effect of confiscating weapons that are re-registered, but yes, those that are not re-registered. In the month of April, when we have the conclusion, weapons that are not re-registered will be subject to administrative seizure and remittance to the Federal Police itself. [PF], so that he can initiate the competent police investigations regarding these weapons”, explained the minister, during a press conference, in Brasília. Sigma is the system that registers weapons on behalf of the so-called CACs (Hunters, Shooters and Collectors). The other national system for registering civilian weapons, Sinarm, maintained by the PF, registers weapons belonging to private security companies, civil police, municipal guards and individuals with authorization to possess or carry them. The current re-registration, which began in February, is being carried out by the PF and will condense all information on civilian weapons in Sinarm from now on. This was a determination by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who suspended, by means of a decree, registrations for the acquisition and transfer of weapons and ammunition for restricted use by CACs. After the end of the re-registration stage, according to Dino, a proposal for a new decree with rules on the acquisition of weapons, obtaining ownership or possession and operation of shooting clubs will be presented to the President of the Republic. The theme should also be discussed through public hearings in the National Congress. Restricted use Despite having achieved the general goal of re-registering weapons registered by CACs, the Minister of Justice informed that the percentage is lower in relation to restricted use weapons. In this case, of the total of 62,870 weapons for restricted use registered in Brazil in the name of civilians, only 33,000 were re-registered, a little more than half. “We have a higher percentage of registration in permitted weapons and a lower percentage in restricted weapons. This is the alert, there are 14 days left and this deadline will not be extended, ”he stressed. Restricted use weapons are those for exclusive use by the Armed Forces, public security forces and also by CACs. Normally, they are those weapons with greater destructive power, such as automatic pistols, machine guns, rifles, among others. Rio Grande do Norte During the press conference, Dino also addressed cases of violence in Rio Grande do Norte by the action of a criminal faction. Since the 14th, the state has faced a public security crisis, with more than 252 attacks against the population, public buildings, businesses and vehicles. Earlier, Dino announced the release of R$ 100 million in investments to reinforce security in the state, including resources for expanding the prison system and re-equipping the police. So far, according to Dino, there are around 700 National Security Force agents in support of overt police actions in the state. “We have a situation of progressive control of installed violence. We had nights, days of having more than 100 occurrences of attacks. This morning we had about five. So, we have a situation of effective reduction of indicators, showing the increasing efficiency of this joint action of the federal government with the government of Rio Grande do Norte”, he said. According to Dino, the security crisis should not go beyond the borders of Rio Grande do Norte and, soon, the minister expects “total control” of the situation. The support of the National Force will continue in the state indefinitely.
