The subway workers decided in an assembly this Friday morning (24) to end the category strike, which started yesterday (23). Workers accepted Metrô’s proposal, which provides for a salary bonus of R$ 2,000, in addition to the institution of a profit sharing program for 2023 with payment in 2024. 2021 and 2022. On Thursday, the strike completely stopped the operation of the Blue, Green, Red and Silver lines. The workers proposed that the service be maintained, but with the release of the turnstiles for the population. In a letter sent to subway workers, the company said it would accept opening the turnstiles to suspend the strike. Governor Tarcísio de Freitas used social media to show support for the idea. Release of turnstiles However, at the same time that they were favorable to the suspension of fare collection, the state government and the Metrô asked the Regional Labor Court, via a writ of mandamus, that the Court prohibit the adoption of the measure. The request was accepted and granted by the judge on duty Ricardo Apostolico Silva, who prohibited the release of the turnstiles and stipulated that 80% of subway workers work during the strike, at peak times. At night, in another decision, the judge of the São Paulo Regional Labor Court (TRT-SP) Eliane Aparecida da Silva Pedroso authorized the service to operate without charging for tickets. Even so, the measure was not adopted. Optional point Governor Tarcísio de Freitas and the mayor of the capital of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, decreed an optional point in state public offices in the capital of São Paulo and the metropolitan region this Friday. Just yesterday, at the end of the day, the subway resumed partial operation of lines 1-Blue, 2-Green and 3-Red. Proposals During the assembly that ended the strike, the president of the São Paulo Metro Union, Camila Lisboa, said that the government’s proposal was bad, but that the mobilization would lose strength if it continued over the weekend. “This proposal is disrespectful to the category that worked during the pandemic, which is suffering at stations with very few employees. It’s disrespectful. We deserve so much more than that,” she said. The Public Ministry of Labor (MPT) made an intermediate proposal, which suggested the payment of R$ 2,500 in bonuses per worker, per year, from 2020 to 2022, the cancellation of punishments, the guarantee of non-retaliation to strikes and the absence of discounts for days off work. Metrô and the government of São Paulo, however, kept on the table only the payment of a single salary bonus of R$ 2 thousand. In the face of the impasse, Camila Lisboa said that she saw little room for negotiation. “The negotiation environment during the strike is not existing or was very insufficient”, she said during the assembly. Immediate return The union’s recommendation is that workers return to work immediately. In a note, the company says it will resume 100% of the operation.
