A report by the American Association of the Recording Industry revealed that, last year alone, more than 41 million vinyl records were sold against 33 million CDs, which represents a profit of more than R$ 6 million. For the first time since 1987, sales of vinyl records surpassed CD sales. For fans, the increase in marketability reflects the sonic experience and aesthetics of the product. “You take an album, you consume the lyrics, you consume the photo, the booklet, the graphic design. You are not listening to just one song, you are consuming a more complete product”, says journalist João Marcondes, who is passionate about vinyl and opened a specialized store in Brasília. And in the last 4 years, that has changed a lot. Women have been buying a lot of records and young people, from 16, 17 years old [também têm comprado].” For João Marcondes, the experience with vinyl is also an alternative to leave the digital world. “You stop everything to listen to vinyl. You disconnect from your cell phone, you disconnect.” Civil servant Erica Silva agrees and says that, despite the availability of streaming and apps like Spotify nowadays, the sound of vinyl brings nostalgia and more quality. I think the quality of the music is also incredible. I think that nowadays there is nothing that compares to vinyl, to the nuances of the needle on the record”, evaluates Erica, another passionate about “bolachões”.
