The storm that hit the metropolitan region of Rio on Thursday night (30) left at least two dead and one missing, according to the State Secretariat for Civil Defense. The two deaths occurred in Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense. One person was struck by lightning in the center of the city, while another drowned after being dragged by the rains into a ditch in Parque Lafaiete. In the city of Rio, firefighters are looking for a man who disappeared after being dragged by the current into the Joana River, near the Maracanã Stadium, in the north zone. According to the secretariat, the State Center for Monitoring and Alerting on Natural Disasters (Cemaden-RJ) is monitoring meteorological conditions and rainfall levels and sending alerts to municipalities. In a note released this morning, the secretariat reported that the hydrological risk in the Baixada Fluminense is very high, with a warning of flooding in the municipalities of São João de Meriti, Duque de Caxias, Nova Iguaçu, Mesquita and Nilópolis. In addition, the geological risk in the region is high, with the possibility of landslides in the municipalities of Duque de Caxias, São João de Meriti, Mesquita, Nilópolis, Belford Roxo and Nova Iguaçu. In the Rio de Janeiro capital, sirens were triggered in 50 communities due to the risk of landslides.
