The unemployment rate in the country was 8.6% in the quarter ended in February this year. Compared to the quarter ended in November 2022, there was an increase of 0.5 percentage points, since the rate was 8.1%. There was, however, a decrease of 2.6 percentage points compared to the quarter ended in February 2022 (11.2%). The unemployed population stood at 9.2 million people in February this year, 5.5% more than in November (483 thousand more people), but 23.2% less than in February 2022 (2.8 million less of people). The contingent of employed population (98.1 million) retreated 1.6% (less 1.6 million) in relation to November, but increased 3% (more 2.9 million) compared to February last year. The level of occupation, that is, the percentage of employed persons in relation to the working-age population, was 56.4%, less than in November (57.4%) but higher than the 55.2% of February 2022. The usual real income (R$ 2,853) was stable compared to November and grew 7.5% compared to February 2022. 11.4% compared to February 2022. Signed portfolio The informality rate stood at 38.9% of the employed population, the same rate as in November but lower than the 40.2% in February of last year. The number of employees with a formal contract in the private sector (not counting domestic workers) remained stable compared to November and grew 6.4% compared to February last year. The number of employees without a formal contract in the private sector fell 2.6% compared to November and rose 5.5% compared to February 2022. Self-employed workers fell 1.2% compared to November and the index was stable compared to February. Underutilization The underutilized population, that is, those who are unemployed or who could work more than they do, reached 21.6 million, stable compared to November, but 20.7% below that observed in February 2022. The underutilization rate ( 18.8%) remained stable in relation to November and fell by 4.7 percentage points compared to February 2022. The discouraged population, that is, those who would like to work and were available but did not look for work for various reasons, reached 4 million people, stable in relation to November and 16% less than in February last year. The percentage of discouraged or discouraged workers in the workforce (3.6%) was also stable compared to November and fell by 0.7 percentage points compared to February 2022.
