in English

Starting in the next few weeks, people with disabilities will be able to finance wheelchairs, prostheses, hearing aids, among other equipment, with funds from Caixa Econômica Federal. The president of the institution, Rita Serrano, announced, this Monday (3), the launch of a line of credit for this public. The announcement took place at the inauguration of the new members of the National Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (Conade). According to Rita Serrano, the line should be launched later this month and will lend from R$ 5,000 to R$ 30,000 for the purchase, maintenance and repair of assistive technology products and services. Interested parties may apply for credit directly at Caixa agencies. The installments can be paid in up to 60 months (five years). Coordinated by the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship, the credit line will have lower interest rates than the market, with a subsidy from the federal government. The rates will be 6% per year for those who earn up to five minimum wages and 7.5% per year for those who earn between five and ten minimum wages. In addition to traditional equipment for people with disabilities, such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, prostheses, the credit line can finance the adaptation of properties and vehicles for people with disabilities. Borrowers will also be able to finance the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of assistive technology products and features. Inauguration ceremony Consisting of 18 government representatives and 18 from civil society, Conade had new members sworn in this Monday. Among the members of the government, holders and alternates of 11 ministries took office. An alternate member of the National Federation of Associations of Parents and Friends of the Disabled (Apaes) also took office as a representative of the society. During the ceremony, the Minister of Human Rights and Citizenship, Silvio Almeida, signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement (ACT) with the National School of Public Health of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), to expand access to universal health rights by disabled people. The minister also announced the resumption of the Reviver sem Limite Program, which integrates actions in education, health, citizenship and accessibility, and the creation of a working group on the biopsychosocial assessment of disability.
