Federal Police agents arrested, this Monday (3), a man of Paraguayan nationality who was carrying 275,000 ecstasy pills, the equivalent of 15.6 kilos (kg) of the drug, at the International Airport of Rio de Janeiro ( Galleon). The action was carried out in conjunction with the Federal Revenue Service. The 25-year-old foreigner entered Brazil with the drug on a flight from Portugal. In a note, the Federal Revenue reported that in a routine inspection, the Paraguayan had his luggage inspected in an x-ray machine and the agents noticed suspicious content. In the detailed inspection, drugs were found in the false bottom of the suitcase. Preliminary testing confirmed it to be a synthetic narcotic substance. According to the Federal Revenue Service, the drug is valued at R$ 1.5 million. The prisoner was taken to the Special Police Station at Galeão International Airport, where the arrest warrant was issued. He will answer for the crime of international drug trafficking, which can be punished with up to 15 years in prison. Investigations and steps will be carried out within the scope of the Airport Police Station in order to identify the final destination of the drug and to whom it would be delivered in Rio de Janeiro. The Paraguayan was sent to a state prison, where he will be available to the Federal Justice, awaiting trial.
