After attack, government promises measures to promote culture of peace

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will sign the creation of an inter-ministerial working group to propose actions to promote a culture of peace and combat violence in society. The announcement was made by the Minister of the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency (Secom), Paulo Pimenta, in the midst of consternation over the attack on a day care center in Blumenau (SC), which resulted in the death of four children, this Wednesday morning. According to him, the working group will be formed by the ministries of Education, Justice and Public Security, Human Rights and Citizenship and the General Secretariat of the Presidency. During the morning, a man of approximately 25 years of age invaded the Cantinho Bom Pastor day care center, in Blumenau (SC), in the Itajaí Valley, killing four children and injuring at least three others. The Civil Police reported that the author of the attack was arrested after turning himself in at the police duty station in the region. The attack is the second in just over a week. On March 27, teacher Elizabeth Tenreiro, 71, died after being stabbed at the Thomazia Montoro State School, in the Vila Sônia neighborhood of São Paulo. A 13-year-old teenager, responsible for the attack, has been apprehended. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva offered, this Tuesday (5), condolences to the families of the victims of the attack that took place at the Blumenau day care center. “There is no greater pain than that of a family that loses its children or grandchildren, even more so in an act of violence against innocent and defenseless children. Pastor”, posted the president through his Twitter account.
