Throughout the month of April, Sesc promotes the 49th edition of the Sesc Best Films Festival. Chosen through public and critic voting, the films that make up the traditional São Paulo exhibition will be an opportunity for moviegoers to see or review the national and foreign winning films of the year. The festival starts today (5th) and continues until April 26th. The films that participated in the voting were chosen among 372 productions released commercially in cinemas in São Paulo in 2022. The list of the most voted films, in 11 categories, will be presented in an opening session, scheduled for this Wednesday (5 ), from 8 pm, in the Cinesesc room, on Rua Augusta, in São Paulo. After the award ceremony, the list of awarded productions and artists will be made available on the event’s website. “Festivals are a time to concentrate and recover cartographies and affections, based on the mobilization and interaction between different audiences – including specialists and aficionados. The Sesc Melhores Filmes Festival, one of the longest running in São Paulo, is part of this context, by bringing together and rewarding favorite works and professionals by both critics and the general public, emphasizing the right to freedom of opinion,” said Danilo Santos de Miranda, director of Sesc São Paulo, in a note. The opening of the festival will feature the film Tinnitus, by Gregorio Graziosi, still unreleased in theaters. The feature tells the story of a former diving athlete who suffers from a terrible ringing in her ear, affecting her physical and emotional stability. Withdrawn from professional competitions, she decides to return to the sport, but for that, she needs to regain confidence in her body and face her fears. One of the highlights of the event will be the free screening, in 35mm, of the film O Som ao Redor, by Kleber Mendonça Filho, which will feature the director. Released ten years ago, the film will be shown on April 10, at 8:30 pm, and tickets can be picked up one hour in advance at the Cinesesc box office. In addition to the face-to-face programming, which takes place in the Cinesesc room, the show will also present free programming on the Sesc Digital platform. Cinesesc also offers several sessions with accessibility resources, such as audio description, Libras and open caption subtitling. This year, some of the accessible sessions are those of the national films Marte Um, Provisional Measure, Paloma and Eduardo and Monica, in addition to the foreign films Everything in Every Place at the Same Time (the great winner of this year’s Oscar), A Mulher Rei, Pantera Negra – Wakanda Forever and Avatar: The Path of Water. In this edition, the festival will promote a special track called Amor ao Cinema, where five feature films will be presented to honor the sector. The films chosen for this session are the classic Singing in the Rain and the Japanese After Life, in addition to Rewind Please; Goodbye, Dragon Inn; and the Brazilian film Um Filme de Cinema. In addition to the films, the exhibition promotes meetings and activities with directors and film thinkers. Some of the movies are free to enter. More information about the festival can be obtained on the Sesc website.
