The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flavio Dino, said this Thursday (6th) that he had ordered the opening of an inquiry by the Federal Police (PF) to investigate the interstate activities of Nazi organizations. The measure was announced in a publication on social networks. “I have now signed a determination for the Federal Police to initiate a police inquiry into Nazi and/or neo-Nazi organizations in Brazil, as there are indications of interstate action. There is a possible configuration of crimes provided for in Law 7.716/89”, announced the minister. The law provides for punishment for crimes resulting from discrimination or prejudice based on race, color, ethnicity, religion or national origin. The determination comes after an attack on a day care center in Blumenau (SC), where a man invaded the unit, killing and injuring children. Last week, a school in São Paulo was also the target of an attack and a teacher was killed. Last month, the massacre at the Raul Brasil school, in Suzano (SP), completed four years. The crime resulted in the death of seven people and the authors, who were former students of the educational institution, committed suicide after the tragedy. According to investigations, the perpetrators of the crime were active on internet forums, where misogynistic hate speech, white supremacy, bullying and Nazism predominate. These speeches continue to reverberate among the youth. A report with a diagnosis of this type of violence in schools and possible solutions was prepared during the transition of the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva government, in December 2022, entitled “Right-wing extremism among adolescents and young people in Brazil: attacks on schools and alternatives for government action.” The document shows that in Brazil – since the first decade of the 2000s – there have been 16 attacks on schools, four of which in the second half of last year, with 35 dead and 72 injured. Yesterday (5), the government committed itself to actions to promote a culture of peace and non-violence in society and set up an Interministerial Working Group to propose policies for preventing and confronting violence in schools. Minister Flávio Dino also announced the release of R$ 150 million to expand school patrols across the country.
