In the package of international agreements signed between Brazil and China this Friday (14th) in Beijing, during a meeting between presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Xi Jinping, is the partnership between Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC) and the state agency of Xinhua news. The agreement between EBC and Xinhua provides for the free exchange of content between the two companies, including texts and images. In addition, the partnership includes the possibility of carrying out exchanges between professionals from the two companies, exchanges of experiences, courses and logistical support for journalism teams in case of international coverage. In addition to Xinhua, the new EBC management has started negotiations to resume cooperation agreements with public communication institutions around the world. Preserving the company’s editorial autonomy, negotiations are underway with companies from several countries such as the News Agency of Portugal (Lusa) and Public TV of Argentina, as well as institutions from Germany, Italy, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela , among others. “We want diversity of information, we want to cover the whole world. We intend to make agreements similar to Xinhua’s with several countries. We want to diversify without prejudice, because the final journalistic criterion is ours”, said EBC CEO Hélio Doyle. In addition to Xinhua, EBC already has an agreement for the exchange of content with China Media Group (CMG), a state-owned group created in 2018 as a result of the merger of China Central Television (CGTN), China National Radio and China Radio International. The group is the world’s largest communications conglomerate by scale of operations, operating 47 TV channels (with content in six languages and a reach of 162 countries) and 17 radio stations.
