Flamengo and Coritiba start their journeys in the 2023 Brazilian Championship this Sunday (16), at Maracanã. The duel will put face to face two teams that seek to leave behind a start to the year below expectations. Starting at 4 pm (Brasília time), the match will be broadcast live on Rádio Nacional, with narration by André Luiz Mendes, comments by Waldir Luiz, reporting by Maurício Costa and news duty by Bruno Mendes. TODAY THERE’S MENGÃO IN BRASILEIRÃO! At 4 pm, the Mais Querido debuts in the competition against Coritiba, in Maracanã! Let’s go with everything in search of the three points! #FLAxCFC #VamosFlamengo pic.twitter.com/r9OlrQ3pcw — Flamengo (@Flamengo) April 16, 2023 In Flamengo, there is great discontent with the start of the season. The club is one of three (along with Cruzeiro and Goiás) to change technical command even before the start of the national competition. The Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira – who failed to try to win four titles at the beginning of the year – could not resist the defeat by Fluminense in the final of the Campeonato Carioca and was fired from Flamengo last Tuesday (11). Three days later, Rubro-Negro announced the arrival of Argentine Jorge Sampaoli to take over. However, between the two events, the team from Rio suffered another surprising setback. Current champion of the Copa do Brasil, Rubro-Negro was defeated away from home, by 2-0, by Maringá-PR – club from Série D do Brasileiro – in the first leg of the third phase of the tournament. As in the confrontation against Maringá, Flamengo will be led again this Sunday (16) by interim Mário Jorge, coach of the under-20 team. He will have to work around five embezzlements to climb the team: Vidal, Arrascaeta, Matheuzinho and Erick Pulgar are injured, while Filipe Luís complained of pain in his calf. In the state championship, the early elimination for Cascavel, still in the quarterfinals, was far from satisfying the fans. In the Copa do Brasil, the team from Paraná was tied (3-3) with Sport, at home, last Wednesday (12) and will have to decide in Recife the vacancy for the eighth finals. The highlight was striker Alef Manga, Coxa’s top scorer in the season, who scored the team’s three goals in the match. The Portuguese coach António Oliveira still has many doubts about the formation of the team for the debut. One certainty is that defender Henrique will not be on the field, as he is still recovering from a muscle injury.
