President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said, this Tuesday (18), that there is a predominance of preaching violence in the internet environment, and that society and families must assume responsibility for the educational process of children and adolescents. For him, digital platforms should be held accountable for the content they help disseminate. “It’s not possible that I can preach hate on the digital network, that I can advertise guns, teach children to shoot, that’s what we see every single day. The truth is that a 6-year-old, 9-year-old child has repercussions at school what he hears at home,” he said, noting that the National Education Plan (PNE) provides that the community has to take responsibility for what happens in schools. For Lula, there is a change in the behavior pattern in society and it is not possible to allow hatred to prevail. “When an 8-year-old child thinks that a gun is a solution, did he see it in the Bible? No. In the school book? No. She heard it from her father or mother at home and that is why we need to take into account that without the participation of parents we cannot recover a correct educational process in schools”, he argued. Lula led, at the Planalto Palace, a meeting with the heads of the Judiciary and Legislative powers, State ministers, governors, entities representing mayors and parliamentarians to discuss policies for preventing and confronting violence in schools. The idea is to create strategies to promote peace in educational institutions and to combat hate speech and extremism. Promotion The federal government also announced a promotion program for the implementation of integrated actions to protect the school environment. The measures add up to R$ 3.115 billion for infrastructure, equipment, training and, mainly, support and implementation of psychosocial centers in schools. For President Lula, raising walls and installing metal detectors is not the solution. “We are not going to turn schools into maximum security prisons, which is not the solution. It doesn’t even have the money for it and it’s not even politically, humanly and socially correct, ”he said. “I keep imagining children being searched in schools. How pathetic it would be for parents, for the mayor, for the governor, for the President of the Republic, for the institutions of this country, for an 8-year-old child to have to show his backpack.” The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, also proposed that states and municipalities create discussion committees with local communities on the protection of the school environment. country,” he said.
