A symphonic concert honoring the 130th anniversary of the death of the Russian composer Tchaikovsky, considered one of the greatest geniuses of classical music, will kick off the 2023 Celebrations Series at Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. This Thursday (20), at 12:00, the first concert will be held, opening the Municipal project at Noon, with popular prices (R$ 2) and at an alternative time. On Saturday (22), the second concert is scheduled for 5 pm, within the theater’s normal schedule. Sponsorship is from Petrobras. Sorting is free. The program includes the Violin Concerto in D Major, Opus 35, and the Piano Concerto nº 1, in B flat minor, Opus 23, which will be performed by the Orquestra Sinfônica do Theatro Municipal (OSTM), with the soloists Ricardo Amado (violinist ) and Alvaro Siviero (pianist). Felipe Prazeres, principal conductor of OSTM, will conduct. “Playing Tchaikovsky is always a pleasure for the listener, for the performer. It is a pleasure for those who are going to do solo. These two concertos that we are going to discuss, both for violin and piano, are part of the gallery of great concertos for instrument and orchestra. They are already part of the great symphonic repertoire; are highly celebrated works in Rio de Janeiro. Now, we are going to relive this moment with Tchaikovsky, next Saturday”, said Prazeres to Agência Brasil. It is very interesting for people to see a rehearsal, how this work is elaborated until we reach the result, which will be the ‘performance’”, said the maestro. For the president of Fundação Theatro Municipal, Clara Paulino, the project is another step towards democratizing access to the equipment, “bringing cariocas closer to this century-old institution”. Between 60 and 65 musicians make up the OSTM staff. “It’s a complete orchestra, with all (instrument) families being represented. It’s a great symphony orchestra, very consistent with the way Tchaikovsky, at the height of romanticism, wrote, using everything he had in his favor”, completed Felipe Prazeres. The guest pianist, Alvaro Siviero, explained that the Piano Concerto, Opus 23, in particular, asks the soloist to give himself fully, due to the work’s strongly romantic character. “Every time I play him, I reinvigorate my life as a musician. I hope that those present also leave this presentation renewed, invigorated, transformed. That is the purpose of good music”.
