Vaccines against influenza, the virus that causes the flu, and bivalent Pfizer, against covid-19, are available for the homeless population in the capital of São Paulo. All street people will be able to receive the doses, even in the absence of personal documents. The vaccines will be offered by the 26 teams of the Street Office service on visits to reception centers and places of permanence and will be available to this group of people also in basic health units (UBSs) and outpatient medical assistance (AMAs)/integrated UBSs. “Immunizing this population, especially in this period of lower temperatures, is extremely important to prevent the serious evolution of the two diseases” said municipal secretary of Health, Luiz Carlos Zamarco. Vaccination against influenza began on the 10th of this month and, according to data from the city of São Paulo, until last Tuesday (18), 384,768 doses of the vaccine had been administered. The vaccine is currently available for people over age 60; children aged between 6 months and under 6 years; pregnant women; postpartum women (up to 45 days after delivery); immunosuppressed; indigenous; health and education professionals and people with permanent disabilities or comorbidities. As of this Thursday (20), professionals in public road, urban and long-distance passenger transport services can also be immunized; port professionals; workers from the security and rescue forces, the Armed Forces and the prison system; and the population deprived of liberty, including adolescents in socio-educational measures. The bivalent Pfizer is available for people over 60 years old, in addition to people over 12 years old with immunosuppression or comorbidities; indigenous; pregnant and puerperal women; residents in long-stay institutions and employees of these facilities in the city of São Paulo; health professionals; people with permanent physical disability; population deprived of liberty and employees of the prison system. The bivalent vaccine against covid-19 is being applied to people in the priority groups who have completed the basic scheme or who have already received one or two booster doses, respecting the four-month interval of the most recent dose received. 1,049,766 doses of this vaccine have already been applied in the capital of São Paulo. Vaccination is available at UBSs and Amas/Integrated UBSs, from Monday to Friday, from 7am to 7pm, and on Saturdays, at these locations, at the same time.
