This Monday (24th) registration begins for the third edition of Trapézio Cultural, a project that aims to promote LGBTQIA+ art. There will be free urban art, drag, poetry and illustration workshops. The workshops take place in May and June in the North (Maré and Tijuca), South (Rocinha), West (Praça Seca) and downtown areas of Rio de Janeiro. The initiative is by Casinha, an NGO working in culture and education for the LGBTQIA+ population since 2017. Registration for the workshops will be made available through an online form. The priority will be for vulnerable LGBTQIA+ people, especially trans and black people. The link will be made available on Casinha’s social media. Instagram is @casinhaacolhida. This will be the first in-person edition of Trapézio Cultural. The production is made possible with the promotion of FOCA, public notice of the Municipal Secretariat of Culture of the City of Rio de Janeiro. According to the organization, the locations of the workshops were chosen in order to contemplate audiences from different peripheral regions of the city. The drag workshop will take place at the LGBTI+ Reference Center in Maré, the LGBTQIAP+ Poetry workshop will take place at the Escola de Música da Rocinha, the vogue (dance) workshop at the Choreographic Center of Tijuca. The urban art workshop will take place at the Centro Cultural Professora Dyla Sylvia de Sá, Praça Seca. At the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR), an illustration workshop will take place. Registration is for 100 places in total, 20 subscribers per workshop. The NGO’s general project coordinator, Andrea Pech, celebrates the realization of the third edition of the sociocultural project. “Casinha has always believed that culture is a powerful tool for social transformation. Through culture, we open a space for exchange on the rights of the LGBTQIAP+ community. And Trapézio comes with this objective, not only to provide new knowledge to our served population, but also to be an exchange platform that encourages the production of our community”, she said in a note. Andrea also highlighted the importance of carrying out the Cultural Trapezio in peripheral regions of Rio and with the participation of workshops from these territories. “Casinha, in this and other projects, fights for the right to culture of the LGBTQIAP+ population and, therefore, we promote access for these people to cultural spaces. Activating peripheral cultural spaces and mobilizing local agents in this process is to promote inclusion in the cultural sphere,” she added.
