Caio Bonfim, from Brasilia, secured this Sunday (23) the chance to participate for the fourth time in an edition of the Olympics. He surpassed the minimum index (1min20s10) in the Warsaw (Poland) stage of the world racewalking circuit, when he won the 20 km race in 1min19s23, which earned him the gold medal. Also shining was Érica Sena, from Pernambuco, with silver in the women’s 20km race, completing the route in 1min30s19. The Olympic index of the sport is established by World Athletics (International Athletics Federation). Places for Paris 2024 are nominal and the deadline for obtaining the index ends on June 20, 2024. Caio Bonfim had the best time in the 2nd Korzeniowski Warsaw Race Walking, held around the National Stadium in Warsaw, leaving the Ecuadorian behind Brian Pintado, who took silver (1min19s:58) and Mexican Isaac Palma took bronze (1min21s47). “The work we’ve been doing with Caio goes back a long way and although he’s still young for athletic walking, he’s going to be in his fourth Olympics. It’s a result to celebrate, marching under 1h20, with wind, heat, new circuit – I could only see him from 100 meters away, when passing by the gas station… It was a great result, excellent for the start of the season”, celebrated Gianetti Sena Bonfim, the athlete’s coach, who had already won silver when debuting in the stage of Dudince (Slovakia) of the world tour. IT’S PRAAAAAAAAAAATA! 🥈🏃🏻♀️🇧🇷 It’s by Érica Sena, in the Warsaw Cup 🇵🇱 of Athletic March. The third place went to the German Saskia Feige (1min31s25) “I did 1mins30s19 and I am very happy for having done so well in the race. The circuit is difficult because it seems that you are always on a curve, going around the stadium”, said the woman from Pernambuco, who will still compete in the GP in Rio Maior (Portugal) and in La Coruña (Spain). Still in the women’s dispute, Brazil had Gabriela Muniz, who was in seventh place, with a time of 1min35s37.
