The Federal Police (PF) is serving this Tuesday (25), in Rio de Janeiro, 19 preventive arrest warrants against accused of defrauding Social Security. According to the PF, the targets are part of a criminal organization that would have caused damages of BRL 8 million to the public coffers. Operation Metamorphosis also complies with 18 search and seizure warrants. The steps, authorized by the 7th Federal Criminal Court of Rio de Janeiro, are being carried out in Niterói, Nova Iguaçu and Nilópolis (in Greater Rio), in addition to the capital of Rio de Janeiro. Also according to the PF, the scheme guaranteed the obtaining of social security benefits on behalf of fictitious or deceased persons, in particular, pension for death and benefit of continued provision to the elderly with low income (BPC-Loas). False documents Investigations showed that falsified documents were used to register ghost beneficiaries or reactivate benefits held by deceased persons, with the help of false attorneys, who concealed their own identity with forged documents. With the granting of the benefit, the “attorneys” opened accounts at bank branches, made withdrawals and issued magnetic cards for future withdrawals. According to the PF, the investigations relied on the collaboration of the Intelligence Center of the Ministry of Social Security in Rio and Caixa’s Fraud Prevention Centralizer.
