The President of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Minister Alexandre de Moraes, delivered this Tuesday (25) to the President of the Chamber, Deputy Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (DEM-MG), suggestions for the bill that deals with the fight against fake news and regulates social networks. When delivering the document, Alexandre de Moraes defended that companies that operate social networks should be held responsible for false accounts and for not providing content requested by the Justice. The minister also defended the accountability of big techs in the case of maintenance of false or out of context content to affect the integrity of the electoral process. The measure should also apply to cases of threat, violence, against the physical integrity of public officials and that aim to restrict the free exercise of constitutional powers. The same punishment must apply to the dissemination of hate speech, racism, Nazi ideologies and any type of discrimination. The suggestions were based on the TSE’s experience in combating disinformation during the electoral period. Accountability The fake news bill is reported by federal deputy Orlando Silva (PCdoB-SP). The text provides for the transparency of social networks and private messaging services, especially regarding the responsibility of providers in combating misinformation. The proposal also determines the increase of transparency in relation to sponsored content and the action of the public power. In addition, it establishes sanctions for eventual non-compliance with the law.
