São Paulo City Hall confirms first death from dengue this year

The Municipal Secretary of Health (SMS) of São Paulo reported today (27) the first death from dengue in the city of São Paulo this year. The patient was a 47-year-old woman, living in the region of Casa Verde/Cachoeirinha, in the north zone. She had comorbidities. The woman began to show symptoms of the disease on January 16 and died eight days later, on the 24th. The case was under epidemiological investigation and was confirmed this Thursday. Currently, another 11 deaths have a cause determined by the portfolio. As the secretariat detailed in a note, when there is a suspected case of dengue, laboratory tests, clinical reports, epidemiological aspects and the death certificate are analyzed. The procedure follows guidelines from the Ministry of Health. Discussion If the teams also deem it necessary, they can additionally conduct interviews with family members and other people from the patients’ social circle to gather information. After that, the case is discussed between the team of epidemiologists from the SMS and the State Department of Health (SES), who come to a conclusion on the cause of death. Since the beginning of the year, 1,762,069 actions have been carried out to combat the Aedes aegypti mosquito in the capital, according to the secretariat. In all, there were 360,156 home visits, in addition to 15,484 inspections of special properties and strategic points, 1,351,991 actions to block breeding sites and nebulization in order to contain the reproduction of the mosquito that transmits the disease. This month, the city hall also began installing 20,000 traps for self-dissemination of larvicides, prioritizing regions with the highest incidence of dengue cases, such as Brasilândia, Jardim Ângela, Raposo Tavares, Sacomã, Itaquera and Santa Cecília. More than half have already been installed.
