Businessman Thiago Brennand arrived around 12:00 this Sunday (30) at the Provisional Detention Center (CDP) in Pinheiros, in São Paulo, according to information from the State Department of Penitentiary Administration. He was on the run in the United Arab Emirates and was extradited after negotiations by the Brazilian government. Heir to a wealthy family in Pernambuco, Brennand was brought to Brazil on Saturday night (29), escorted by Federal Police (PF) agents. Subject to five preventive arrest warrants, he landed at Guarulhos International Airport, in Greater São Paulo, handcuffed and underwent a custody hearing before being sent to the CDP. According to the São Paulo Court of Justice, Thiago Brennand is a defendant in at least eight criminal cases, and had his preventive detention ordered in five of them. In addition to the attacks and rapes against women, the businessman is still being investigated for assaulting his son and for having a collection of illegal weapons. Bail paid The businessman was arrested in October, in Abu Dhabi, but was released after posting bail. After discussions with the Brazilian government, the United Arab Emirates agreed to extradite the businessman, after he was included in Interpol’s red notice. Brennand was arrested again on April 17 after intelligence services in the Middle Eastern country identified a plan in which he intended to flee to Russia. A team – made up of a delegate and two PF agents – went to the United Arab Emirates to bring the Brazilian. A clerk trained in martial arts was also mobilized, given the prisoner’s violent history. Brennand’s defense pleads in court for the revocation of the businessman’s preventive detention, claiming that he intends to collaborate with the investigations. In addition to the assaults and rapes, he must answer for crimes such as false imprisonment and bodily harm, for having forced a woman to tattoo his name. He claims innocence and says he is persecuted.
